Ty and Tessa actually met in middle school and even attended the same high school, but never dated. When they both moved out of state for college, the universe was screaming “hellooooooo your future spouse was RIGHT HERE” and sent them both to Iowa—albeit to different schools. Eventually the universe got its way, proving that no amount of moving or long distance can keep you away from who you’re meant to be with.
We spent a perfect summer evening together at the Clare and Mile Mills Rose Garden and Greenwood Park to capture their engagement, full of snuggles, giggles, and discussions about cats. We chatted about their time in Iowa and about the fact that, eventually, they’d end up back in Minnesota where they were both from. And it sat with me the idea that while we only had a short blip together, it was another example of the universe putting people together. It’s weird as a photographer to have someone just appear in your inbox one day. You facelessly email until one evening you’re skipping around the Rose Garden together, documenting one of the most important milestones of people’s lives.
But the universe has a way, and I’m glad it put Tessa and Ty together so I could be part of the mix, however brief.
