A senior who knows exactly what she wants.
It's pretty common when working with seniors, it takes us a few goes to figure out what exactly we want to do and where we want to go. We unpack hobbies, interests, favorite spots, even general vibes we're going for.
Not with Mia.
The second I asked her about herself on the call, she shared that she loved reading, sewed her own clothes, practiced archery, and loved her dog, best friend Kate, and sister. She imagined being surrounded by books on warm, wooden shelves and stringing her bow surrounded by nature. It took me all of two seconds to envision exactly where we'd be going and what we'd be doing. Because, really, she laid it all out there for me. And I am someone who loves running with a vision.
I got to see several sides of Mia during her session: stoic and contemplative, goofy and fun, strong and intense. It isn't often you meet anyone, let alone a young person, who has such a strong handle on who they are as a person. Their passions, their interests, their priorities. I marveled at the clothes she had sewn, looked at her mom with incredulous eyes when she strung her bow, and laughed when she frolicked with her dog and joke-fought with her sister. Everything Mia does, she does with intention and a lot of love.
As we wrapped up for the evening the sunset showed up like a paid actor late to the gig, so we spent a few extra minutes taking in the cotton-candy sky. (Which, might I add, complimented Mia's dress perfectly.) I took a minute to really appreciate how much of who Mia was in such a short time and how proud I was to have met yet another young, accomplished woman who also had so much kindness and humility.
