Law school is no joke...but the hats they wear when they graduate are.
That was what Mikayla and I kept going back to as we took portraits to celebrate her graduation from Drake Law School at the Des Moines Capitol Law Library. All the hard work and dedication to wear..this things?! But even the funny little hat deserves a moment, knowing that is signifies years of Mikayla's hard work and dedication paying off.
I met Mikayla when working as an office manager for an attorney across the hall from the law firm she was working at. We bonded over cats—both the fuzzy, purring kind and the liquid eyeliner kind. After I left the office to do photography full time, we kept in touch with monthly happy hours and regular Instagram memes. When she asked if I could take her graduation photos, it felt like quite an honor knowing how hard she had worked, both in and out of class, to get to where she was.
My only sadness is that we could not sneak a cat into the library to pose in matching silly hats. Fortunately the signature cat eye made an appearance, looking like absolute....purrrrfection.
I'm not sorry. I'm not. I said it and I'm not taking it back.
