“How’s the wedding planning going?”
I heard someone ask from across the room at a board game night I had been invited to. My friend Cam had gathered some of his closest friends for a winter reprieve, and in an attempt to meet new people, I had decided to stop by. But not with the intention of doing business. ‘Boundaries, Lauren. Don’t butt in.’
“I dunno, we kind of just want to elope at this point.” A voice replied.
“You should talk to Lauren,” Cam said, pointing in my wild eyed direction as I sat perked up like a meerkat, pretending I wasn’t eavesdropping. “She’s a wedding photographer.” He beckoned to me, “Lauren! Come over here and meet Summer!”
“HI YOU SHOULD ELOPE DO IT,” I said very smooth, like a real-life normal human as I stumbled over. “DID YOU KNOW DOGS CAN BE YOUR WITNESS IN COLORADO”
Fortunately for me, Summer and Isaac are two of the warmest, kindest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Because if they weren’t, I probably would have scared them off right there. But instead they invited me over to their home to talk photos and we sat for hours drinking wine, eating cookies, and talking about how weddings. While I didn’t convince them to elope with a dog to Colorado, we had a lovely chat about the importance of their friends and family being part of their day, but not losing themselves in the process. And they got exactly that: a day devoted to their love held up by the support of their loved ones (and a team of expert wedding vendors).
Their wedding day was the perfect blend of formal elegance and laid-back attitudes. We laughed, hung out, and drank plenty of champagne. So many hugs were given, so many cookies snuck off the dessert table. And always at the center were Summer and Isaac.
